John J. McCauley joined the Nicholson, Davis, Frawley, Anderson and Ayer law firm in 2004 after having served as a partner of the Lexington law firm of Breibart, McCauley and Newton, PA for numerous years.

McCauley is a 1983 graduate of the University of South Carolina School of Law and a 1977 graduate of Florida State University . Prior to entering private practice, McCauley served as a Judicial Law Clerk to the Honorable Julius Baggett in 1983-84. Additionally, McCauley was an Assistant Solicitor in Lexington County 's 11th Judicial Circuit in 1984-85.

McCauley is a member of the South Carolina and Lexington County Bars and is fully licensed to appear before the United States District Court for the District of South Carolina and the United States 4th Circuit Court of Appeals. He is also a Member and Founder of the South Carolina Criminal Defense Lawyers Association. He is a member of the South Carolina Trial Lawyers Association, having served on its Board of Governors from 1994 to 2001. He is also a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates. McCauley served as the Chairman of the 11th Judicial Circuit Fee Dispute Committee from 1993 through 2006.

A native of the Columbia , SC metropolitan area, McCauley currently practices in the areas of general litigation, wrongful death, personal injury, criminal defense and domestic relations. McCauley currently resides in Columbia with his wife of 25 years, the former Lenni Thompson. They are the proud parents of a daughter, Kate, who is an undergraduate student at USC.
