Traffic incidents in Columbia’s 5 Points a worry

The Columbia Police Department and members of the Five Points Association are concerned over what they say is a growing number of “car versus pedestrian” incidents in the commercial district.

Members of the association, along with representatives from the city and the state department of transportation, met last week to discuss how to address the safety issues...

Lexington to add landscaping on main roads

Columbia, SC (WLTX) - For families that have lost a loved one who was serving overseas, knowing that others remember the sacrifice is important. Wednesday, state lawmakers took time out to honor them.

The families met for lunch with lawmakers and community members and received, on behalf of their soldier, Marine and airman, were presented with the Order of the Palmetto Patriot, as well as a Concurrent Resolution honoring them, a South Carolina flag which was flown over the State House and a US Flag flown over the US Capitol...

COLUMBIA — Adults in suits met behind closed doors Tuesday at the S.C. Supreme Court to argue over who will raise a curly-haired 2-year-old girl.
A family court judge in Charleston ordered on New Year’s Eve that James Island residents Matt and Melanie Capobianco turn over their adoptive daughter to her biological father, Oklahoma resident Dusten Brown. Brown, who is part Cherokee, filed for paternity and custody four months after Veronica’s birth and successfully argued his case under the Indian Child Welfare Act, a federal law designed to preserve Native American families.....

Beating victim: 15 years is "right amount of time"

COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - Five Points beating victim Carter Strange said the 15-year sentence for the oldest defendant charged in his brutal beating is the right amount of time.

Thyeem Henrey, 19-years-old at the time of the beating in June of 2011, pleaded guilty to assault and battery and criminal conspiracy in a Richland County courtroom Wednesday....
